Southeast Wisconsin Tributary Report

I’ve been able to fish southern Wisconsin’s tributaries twice in the last two weeks and things seem to bee improving.  As long as this mild weather holds up so will the fishing.  After the salmon spawn and fade away so does most of the angling pressure.  The absence of salmon in combination with deer season opening up keeps the rivers more or less empty.  When I hit the water last week I saw a lot of browns starting to spawn, but there were still some fresh fish willing to chase a swinging streamer.  I only picked up one steelhead last week , but Dave and I hit the water again yesterday and he landed two steelhead and a nice 7+ lb brown trout drifting eggs, and I took one nice brown swinging a streamer.  After taking a break we returned to the spot where we had success and watched a guy hook about six or seven steelhead in a short amount of time on spawn sacks.  I would say it’s safe to assume the best steelhead fishing will be from now until the river freezes up.

Urban fishing does have a certain charm. Nowhere in Canada would you approach the river and be greeted by a teddy bear in a lawn chair.
