Southwest Florida Snook

Posted by on April 12, 2012

Snook in southwest Florida start moving from deep structure to the shallow passes and beaches along the gulf coast in late spring/early summer to spawn.  Last June my cousin and I spent a week down in Naples and got to witness snook cruising in the surf ambushing baitfish in just inches of water.  I’m hoping I can make the time to get down there in the next couple months to get another taste of surf fishing on the beautiful gulf shore.   For now I just wanted to share this photo of Chase releasing a snook into a cloud a baitfish.  The fly of the trip was a gummy minnow about an inch and half long.  We would just let the backwash of the surf pull the fly right in front of the fish and WHAM!
