Family Float on the Milwaukee River

Posted by on June 12, 2012

My lady Megan, my son Asher, and myself all took our first family float on our pontoon boats last week down the upper  Milwaukee River.  The weather was great and the float is very easy and safe for beginners and children.   A canoe seat strapped onto the rear rack of the pontoon made a great passenger seat for my son.  With the stripping basket underneath him for a security net I felt more than comfortable taking him down the river.  Two boats can also fish fairly effectively when secured together with one person on the oars and the other casting.  In this case Megan was kind enough to steer the boat while I tossed streamers at the banks probing for smallmouth.  I had a few pike roll on my fly but never got a hook into ’em, and landed half a dozen smallmouth.  Most in the 12 inch range, and one pushing 3 lbs.
