I had one of those days off in the middle of the week, and I knew I had to hit some water. I headed out to the South Platte in the Deckers area knowing I could hook up with some larger Trout. I arrived late in the morning around 10:00 and the fishing was really slow. I was spotting some large fish, but they were interested in nothing I had in my pack.
I decided to take a walk and explore some sections I have never had success at. Low and behold, the fish still weren’t biting. I decided to head back to my car to leave for the day; being skunked for the first time in a while. I decided to throw a big Stonefly with a Hare’s Ear right behind as I moved down the river. I stopped at a couple holes I love and the bite was FINALLY on! I landed two nice fish in the first hole, and three nicer Trout in the next hole. One of the Rainbows really gave me a run for my money; jumping like a Kangaroo. A Brown Trout “worked” me as well with some nice runs and headshakes.
Even though the biggest fish of the day was a 14″ Brown, it was awesome to get some alone time on a familiar stretch of water. Keep fishing!
