Right here in Boulder, we have a great river system that offers fishing of all kinds year-round. As winter settles in along the front range, the dedicated fly fisherman head to the tailwaters for the consistent flows and high water temps. Below Gross Reservoir there is a very little known tailwater of South Boulder Creek that holds many gorgeous fish. I had a chance to hike down into the canyon on a warm afternoon to wet a line right before the new year. The water was fairly high and the fish were sitting tight behind every rock. Mysis shrimp and stoneflies were on the menu, and the fish did not seem to care what size they were. We failed to try streamers, but judging by the aggressive fish we hooked, I am fairly certain they would have worked. The fishing never really stops here in Colorado, so throw some gloves on and hit the water.
