With cabin fever beginning to set in I decided it was time for trip to Iowa; where the season is still open, the water is still flowing, and the trout are still hungry. I had fished one of Iowa’s trout streams last winter for the first time and despite the freezing temperature the trout were willing to play. So, this time I decided to head back to that same creek. On my way there I thought I was headed to the same spot I fished last year, but as I pulled of the highway onto the gravel road I realized that this was a different section of river. After parking I rigged up and went to check out the creek and saw the welcoming sight of fish rising. Since I was already set up with a nymph I made a few drifts where I’d seen the rises and nothing happened, so I immediately changed to a dry fly. After a few fly changes a size 20 BWO started to raise some fish.
