My cousin Chase was in town from Colorado this week for a wedding and managed to make some time to get up to the driftless area with me. Timing couldn’t have been better with most creeks just clearing up and dropping within their banks after some serious summer thunderstorms flooded most of southern Wisconsin last week. Hopper time is here! Terrestrials were bringing fish to the surface throughout the day, and plenty of fish were fooled by variety of nymphs as well. Hares ear nymphs and soft hackle flies were some of the top producers. Also had one of my personal best driftless brown trout take an olive bunny leech. Using a hopper-dropper is a good way to catch fish all day right now.
